Elimination Diet Day 4
Still had company today but adapting.
Had a marvelous breakfast of roasted cauliflower and avocado "toast".
Had a marvelous breakfast of roasted cauliflower and avocado "toast".

- Avocado mashed with chopped onion, salt/pepper on rice cake
Also throughout the day...
- Leftover salmon and rice from previous night's stir fry
- One piece of watermelon
- More avocado on rice cake
I feel I'm eating a good amount. I do want to pay attention to varying what I'm eating but it's hard during this first three weeks with all the limitations. I look forward to testing then hopefully adding in (because I really don't think these are causing problems): citrus, nuts, seeds, legumes and possibly nightshade.
In regards to foods in the nightshade family that I like [tomatoes, potatoes (doesn't include sweet potatoes), peppers (doesn't include black pepper), goji berries, paprika, and eggplant], I don't necessarily need white potatoes, but I will cry if I can't have peppers anymore (I love spicy food!)... and it'd be hard to keep away from tomatoes too.
Tomorrow I'm going to try to pick up the pace in regards to exercise (walking). Didn't do too much while company was here because the temps during most of our visiting hours was hovering around the 100 mark. I do go out in the mornings and do my "orchard" chores, but that takes less than an hour (when I have company). Maybe tomorrow I'll get back to mowing and weed-eating.
One thing about eating clean is that the cooking (when there is cooking) is much simpler. Not simple because I'm using pre-packaged anything, but simpler because I'm making meals with few ingredients.
Alright... I'm going to go to bed early and read. I've only been logging 6-7 hours of sleep a night and I'd like to shoot for 8.
Thanks so much for these posts, They are very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteBecause you are doing this, I started to log my food intake too. But what is more interesting to me is the gradual awakening in me, through your journey, that maybe I should try it your way. Meaning I may find going completely clean and then adding things back may solve a few food puzzles for me. Instead I have my list of foods to avoid and stick to that with varying degrees of success.
My hat is off to you because going out to any restaurant would be forbidden plus I have others in the house to feed. I get overwhelmed thinking how to manage those things.
Thinking.....
Thanks for reading my blog posts, first of all. <3
DeleteYes, when I have to feed others yet still do "my food", I want to say, "Screw it!" But then I remember those last niggling symptoms that I want to be rid of and don't want to throw in the towel.
I mean, seriously, it was beyond awesome to find out what single food was causing 40 years of migraines. And now to be migraine free is amazing. And it was beyond awesome to find out what single food was causing eczema on my hands so badly the skin was cracking open and bleeding. And now my hands are so smooth (still old and wrinkled, but awfully smooth). :-)
And so it makes sense to continue on with the assumption that if I have other ailments there's a high likelihood that foods are causing inflammation in my body which is causing annoying symptoms.
Will keep you posted.
Laura...what food did you find was causing you migraines, and was it known to be a common culprit? Just catching up on your blog...
ReplyDeleteBarbara, it was TOTALLY not what I expected. I was dead sure if my migraines were being caused by a food sensitivity, it would be gluten. It turned out to be cow's milk. So now, I can have goat or sheep's milk in small quantities, but no cow's milk. And when I say "milk" I usually mean cheese. Ha ha ha! I'm not a milk drinker but I LOVE me some cheese. MMmmm!
DeleteInteresting! Was it the Lactose? Or not that specific? A year ago, my doc told me that as we age we can develop lots of sensitivities we never had before...lactose is one of them, as are artificial sweeteners. This is anecdotal evidence from what she sees in her practice. So, last summer I eliminated these from my diet. This was a ginormous change for me, as I consumed a lot of artificial sweeteners and dairy...No real change...GI doc later this summer for her input.
